“My how time flies.” “Where does the time go?” There are plenty of sayings about time & how it passes so quickly.
It’s the craziest thing to not really feel that much older but know, judging by how you look in the mirror or the world around you, that time has definitely passed.
Today I celebrate my 20th wedding anniversary with Candy. When we got married in 1991 (at 22) we were just a couple dumb kids. I know many of our friends (even some in attendance at the nuptials) didn’t think we’d make it. We were too young, hadn’t spent enough time together, etc. I guess we felt like most couples who take that leap. We loved each other & that seemed like enough. Over the years I’ve learned that love is important but I don’t think it’s enough. Patience, hard work, humor, forgiveness, friendship. These are just a few of the other ingredients in what I believe is a necessary recipe for a lasting marriage.
Did we start out like a fairy tale? No way. Has it been smooth sailing all the way? Are you kidding? Did we come close to the brink of losing it a few times? Unfortunately, yes. But through it all we kept it together. We worked at it. Staying married is no easy feat. We were so lucky to have role models like our parents. My folks certainly had their down times but they didn’t throw up their hands & throw in the towel when it got tough. They worked through the low times & were married til “death did they part.” Candy’s parents are so in love it’s a little intimidating sometimes.
We have three beautiful, though far from perfect, children. It’s a pretty great feeling to know we’ll leave behind 3 people who can be better than us; who can show that we did something pretty great for a pretty long time. What will the next 20 bring? I don’t know, but I know that if we have as much fun as we’ve had the first 20, it’s going to be a hell of a ride.

Boy, do I feel rested! Wrapping up a week off & it’s been great. We kicked it off with a weekend excursion to Gulf Shores, Alabama. Got a chance to see & hang with Bradley Gaskin, Miranda Lambert & Gary Allan.
Lots of fun, sun, drinks & seafood! Candy & I stayed an extra day & celebrated our 20th a little early. Definitely nice to have a break from the every day & sit by a pool facing the ocean.

Once we got back I did a whole lot of nothing. Saw Harry Potter & Cowboys & Aliens. Both really good. As expected, I shed a few tears during Harry. Had fun texting back & forth with Lexi about it & finding that we
cried at some of the same parts. Yeah I know, I’m a wimp.
I’m lucky to love what I do for a living. I can tell I still love it because at the end of a vacation I’m always ready to get back to it. Looking forward to hearing what’s been going on in your world the last week

Candy and Tony

Well, things are finally settling down a little now that we’re in the new house. Moving went off without a hitch (except for the disappearance of the kitchen box that held all our cutting boards, prep bowls & measuring spoons. Frustrating!). Kids are enjoying summer, as is Candy, who now gets to sleep in instead of rising at 6 every day to cart kids to school. I sure wish I had a summer schedule! Maybe we could move mornings to 9a instead of 5a for a couple months a year? (more…)

What a CRAZY week in Nashville! It’s CMA Music Festival & all the die hard country fans have swooped in for a dream weekend.
We don’t usually wade too deep into the huge crowds, especially in this heat, but we do take part in some cool stuff. Yesterday,
Candy & I went to a private Keith Urban event. He opened up a rehearsal for industry, media & fan club-types to check out what he has in store for his upcoming tour. It was fantastic! There were around 400 people in the auditorium so it was really intimate. Keith came out &
talked about being nervous & asked that we all try to act like a “real” audience, then launched into Put You In A Song. He stopped & chatted between songs & explained some of what was going to happen. It was really fun. I snapped some pictures & took a little video. Hope you enjoy them.



Other than that, it looks like we’re hosting Chris Young’s fan club party this weekend & heading to Birmingham next week to take part in Bama Rising. Both HUGE honors. We’ll post pictures of both next week.

Man, it’s been a crazy few weeks! Between Lexi & her boyfriend’s visit, Memorial Day & our moving into a new house, I’m pooped!

Moving is always such a pain but it’s always so nice when it’s over & you’re settled. We did our move mostly ourselves over the Memorial Day weekend & a few days after. I’m no fan of manual labor so I paid a few of Geoffrey’s buddies to help & that was a smart move. It does my heart good to see teenagers doing manual labor. I don’t see it enough! Now the unpacking & searching for stuff we lost in the move begins.

Lexi’s boyfriend has returned to San Diego. He got the stamp of approval from the family. Nice, funny kid. Of course, all I want to see is my daughter happy & she is, so I’m cool. Speaking of Lexi she’s smoking through college. She’s technically going to be a Junior next semester but she’s had to slow down her course load to avoid an early graduation. On the one hand, that’s great because she’s not even 20 yet. On the other, it just means more money. I’m somewhat torn, but as always, proud of her & her commitment to education.

Well, this is a big week with TONS going on. The Hangover Part II opens Thursday & we’ll be checking out the first showing in
Nashville. I really hope it lives up to the hype, but that will be tough to do.

The same day, Lexi gets here & it’s a special visit because she’s bringing her boyfriend along for part of it. We’ve only chatted briefly on Skype so I’m looking forward to meeting the young man in person. Also coming up with some plans to mess with him & embarrass Lexi. Of course, having all the kids together is the best. I can’t wait.

This weekend we start the moving process. We’re moving to a different school district, as we’ve been REALLY let down by the school
the kids have attended. It was supposed to be one of the best in our county but I can’t agree. Mostly the counseling & administrative
staff at fault, but enough that we’re willing to uproot. The good news is, we’re moving to an area that has a lot of stuff close by (restaurants, movie theatres, etc) & a really nice neighborhood. The moving part is a real pain, but we’re experts. We’ve lived in 7 houses in the last 18 years! I guess we’re nomads.

I hope you have some nice plans with friends & family for Memorial Day weekend. As you enjoy time together, please don’t forget
to take a moment to remember the reason behind the day. A quick prayer or thought for fallen men & women of the military would
be an easy “thank you” for all they & their families sacrificed.

Whew. Busy couple weeks around here. Candy’s had special events at Anthropologie, Meredith has had her play (which wraps this weekend), Geoffrey’s
been working at his new job & I’ve been traveling (& will again next week). Glad to have a few days to enjoy home.

I have to say, seeing the sun today did me a world of good. I never thought I was someone whose mood was affected by the weather, but after so much bad stuff rolling through, I guess I am. Funny how such a seemingly small thing can lift your spirits so much.

My in-laws, like thousands of others, are still without power in Alabama. I’m still blown away by Mother Nature sometimes. My condolences to all who lost loved ones.
Hard to imagine storms like these that cause so much destruction and alter so many lives in just a few minutes. Please help your neighbors in any way you can.

I mentioned this on the air the other day but wanted to get it out here too. I’m so pleased Osama Bin Laden was killed, but I can’t say it’s a celebratory
feeling for me. Try as I might, I can’t get behind “celebrating” the death of another human, no matter how evil he may have been. That’s not to say I don’t
believe he had it coming. The dude was bad news & I’m so proud of our military & intelligence services for the job they did. I just think we were appalled when
we saw folks in the Middle East dancing in the streets over the problems in the U.S., so why should they feel any different when they see the same reactions happening
here.

Happy Easter! Just a quick check-in to say I hope you get some time with your friends & family on this most special day.
No big plans here. Candy made Easter baskets for our two at home (even though they’re WELL past the age for it) & of course,
they’re happy to have a big collection of sugar. Ugh. She even put together a package with all the Easter “fixins” to ship to Lexi
in San Diego. As you parents know, it doesn’t matter how old they get, they’ll always be your babies!

Meredith has been in rehearsals for several weeks for the musical, “13″ & it finally opened this weekend. We saw it opening night
& I was really impressed with the kids. There are some really talented young actors involved. The set is a little drab (all painted black) so I
wish a different choice had been made with that so it would match the vibrant theme of the show, but hey, I’m not the director (this time).
If you’re in the Nashville area & want to see a fun show about the trials & tribulations of being 13, you should definitely check it out. I pasted the

So the ACMs are behind us. All in all a pretty good show this year. It was a little odd that almost an hour went by before an award was given, but it’s always more fun for me to see the performances anyway so I had no complaints. Still a bit disappointed that Jason Aldean wasn’t recognized with a win, but at least he got nominated this time! By the way, thanks to everyone who took part in our ACM Live Twittercast/Facebook party. It was a lot of fun & you made it a real success.

Tax time. Ugh. We’ve been really lucky over the years that we haven’t had to pay too often. Not sure what will happen this year. Not as much to write off & a difference in pay has me nervous. Seeing our CPA today so hopefully he can work some magic. I really don’t want to write a check to the government this year. It stings!

The new version of “Arthur” opens this week. Russell Brand takes over the role that Dudley Moore made famous. I’m concerned they’re going to take a classic & ruin it. I’ve seen the trailer & it didn’t do much for me. Hopefully the movie is better than the preview. Do you have a favorite that got remade? How was it?

Quick family update – Candy & I are going crazy trying to get past the age of 14 with our youngest. She’s really trying our patience in a lot of ways. If she lives through this it will be a victory! Geoffrey’s still drumming & school actually seems to be going pretty well for him. He’s worked hard on those grades. Skyped with Lexi for the first time in way too long the other day. She’s well & dating a guy pretty seriously. Haven’t met him in person, only over Skype, so that’s a little weird. She seems happy though, so I guess we’ll let it slide for now.

Here’s a few artists getting a LOT of play on my iPod right now: Amos Lee, The Civil Wars, Drive-By Truckers, Mumford & Sons, Ben Folds, Band of Horses, Blitzen Trapper & the new R.E.M.

The kinder & gentler American Idol seems to be surviving without Simon Cowell. I have to admit I’m surprised I still like it. Simon really made it for me. Luckily, Steven Tyler is pretty entertaining. It was Motown night last night & I think most of the singers did a really
good job. This season seems to have some of the best singers they’ve had on the show in a while. There’s a couple of them the judges really like that I can’t get on board with though. Scotty has talent but I don’t get the hype. An okay voice & now referring to himself in third person. Really? Not cool. I also have to say that Jacob, while clearly a lot of fun, is so inconsistent that he shouldn’t be garnering so much praise. In the words of Randy – “Pitchy, dawg.” If you’re watching, who do you think can win this season?

Forgot to mention this the other day when I saw The Lincoln Lawyer. Gotta bone to pick. If you’re going to show up at the theater 10 minutes after the movie is scheduled to start, please don’t look so shocked when you find there aren’t any good seats left. This never ceases to amaze me. People will come stand in the aisle, staring slack-jawed at all the people, amazed that anyone besides them could have wanted to see this movie on a Saturday evening. Then, some have the nerve to ask people to scoot down or scrunch in so they can sit together. Don’t even consider asking me to do that. Get there on time & you’ll have your choice of seats. Why bother those of us smart enough to arrive early? Whew, glad to get that off my chest.

One more thing. I came across this picture of an old toy the other day & found it funny. Superman could fly, right? Did he really need this accessory?

Well, Spring has sprung & here in Nashville it’s been a beautiful weekend. After 16 years in California we were really spoiled by the amazing year-round weather. So spoiled that
we sometimes forgot how lucky we were. Kris & I were talking the other day that we’re actually kind of glad to have “real” winters now (I know, northern & midwestern friends, they
aren’t nearly as “real” as yours, but hey, we’re babies) because it makes us appreciate the beautiful seasonal change. Trees blooming, grass growing for my son to cut (which he
just LOVES, believe me) and an all-around good feeling. Hope the nicer weather brings a lift to your wintery mood as well.

I’ve gotta include a quick “atta girl” to Candy. She’s been working at Anthropologie for about a year and a half. Started as part-time holiday help, then got promoted to Personal Shopper,
where she has thrived. She found out a couple days ago she’s now going to be a part of a team responsible for various areas of the personal shopper program for the whole region. It’s
really cool that she’s done so well & leapfrogged some other folks who have been doing it longer. If you’re ever in town, go see her!

Candy & I went to see The Lincoln Lawyer last night. It was pretty good. It’s tough when they make movies out of the books of one of my favorite authors. I’ve read the books so
many times that I really notice the chunks of story that get dropped or changed. Overall they did a good job, but it still can’t top the book. Of course, that’s almost always the case.
They’ve succeeded a few times (in my opinion). I thought Jaws was actually BETTER than the book. For the most part the Harry Potter films have been good, even though a TON
gets left out since they’re so long. Silence Of The Lambs was another example of a success. What do you think? Have you seen any of your favorite books adapted into successful
movies?

February is zipping by & hopefully that means winter is getting out of town soon. I’ve learned that after having spent 16 years in a climate that hovers mostly in the 60s & 70s year-round, having to make it through a “real” winter
is literally making me sick. I was hooked up with that nasty bug in January that went right into a cold I’ve had all of February. Enough already! Sorry to be a whiner, but that’s what guys do. You know that.
Candy can be on death’s door & still run kids back & forth, make dinner, run errands, etc. I’ve got this cold & have already picked out my suit for the funeral.
I know “Survivor” isn’t what it used to be, kind of hit & miss from season to season, but if this season’s first tribal council is any indication I think it could be the best season in a few years.
I’ve never seen one person absolutely destroy another player’s plan so freely. A guy called out others for trying to get him to vote for a certain player & he revealed who has the immunity idol. Really fun TV!
Speaking of fun reality TV, I’m excited for the new season of Amazing Race that starts tonight. Teams that didn’t win on their season are back to try again. They’ve lined up some really great competitors. Should be a blast.
On the family front, no big news for most of us, except Meredith. She auditioned for a musical last week and was cast as one of the main characters. She’s excited & we’re happy to see her getting involved with theatre again.
She was really into it in California but was slow to get back to it here. Without sounding like a “stage dad” I have to say she’s pretty talented so I’m glad to see her putting it to use again.
I don’t buy into to horoscopes & numerology, but this is kind of interesting. It says that you can tell a lot about yourself by the day you were born. Check it out & see if it’s accurate for you. It was pretty close for me. Here’s the link:

Hello! Well, summer’s over, the kids are back in school & it’s my favorite time of year. I love the fall, I love football & I love that my kids aren’t up all night getting into trouble at home. They’re now getting more sleep & getting into trouble at school!

It’s a big year for the younger two. Geoffrey will get his driver’s license next month. He’s obviously super-excited & has heard the actual test is really easy. We’ll see. Meredith became a freshman in high school. Can’t believe my youngest is in high school. 4 more years & it’s conceivable we’ll be without any kids living in our house for the first time in 19 years! The cool thing is, we’ll only be in our mid-40′s so we should be young enough to enjoy the empty nest. Lexi just got started on her sophomore year at the University of San Diego. She’s having a great time but we sure miss her. Thank goodness for Skype!

Had a great time at the final Brooks & Dunn show the other night. It was weird to think we were a tiny part of history. Looking forward to the George Strait/Reba/Lee Ann Womack show this Friday in Lexington, KY.

Excited about fall TV! Some favorites: Amazing Race, Survivor, Hell’s Kitchen, How I Met Your Mother, Glee, Grey’s Anatomy, Dexter & of course, football! What new shows are you going to try? I’m looking for ideas (if I have time for anything new!).
