Yogurt Chat With Tony – Tony’s Blog

Friday, January 20th, 2012

What have I learned this week? Yogurt is a firestarter topic on Twitter! The other day, I mentioned I was about to try a new flavor of
Greek yogurt (Apple & Cinnamon, by the way) & had all kinds of responses. Who knew yogurt was such a big deal?

It’s been great having Lexi home for a month. She heads back to San Diego in a few weeks & I’m sure I’ll be in a funk for a while when that happens.

Thank you, Christmas Lights, and Sink Hole- Tony’s Blog

Friday, November 18th, 2011

Well, we’re less than a week from Thanksgiving & only (Yikes!) 36 days from Christmas! Are you ready? Hopefully you’ll
have the chance to hang with family. We’re excited because we get Lexi home for a few days next week. It’s always a treat to have the whole gang under one roof. Other than that it’s business as usual. Nashville will slowly start shutting down over the next few weeks
so things get pretty quiet for the holidays. No complaints here.

I can’t believe it’s CMA time already! It’s funny, when we lived in California & traveled to Nashville for the 3 or 4 days of fun it was so crazy busy.

Old Friends, camping, and returning to San Diego- Tony’s Blog

Friday, October 14th, 2011
It’s been a busy couple weeks! Went to my 25th high school reunion a couple weeks ago. About half our class was there & it was nice to see them. It was especially great to see a couple really close friends I hadn’t

had a chance to hang with for many years. You can always tell your real friends. We fell right back into a comfortable conversation & laughter as if not a day had passed. Sadly, no embarrassing stories to share.
It was quite a laid back affair, with the Alabama/Florida game streaming on a big screen as opposed to music. Kind of funny.

My wife of 20 years still surprises me on occasion. This week is one of those times as she announced she wants to go camping this weekend. WTH? She has never had an interest in staying somewhere
unless it has room service so this one really shocked me. We’re starting small. We’re just going to spend Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. I’m a tent guy. No RV for me. Can’t wait to see how she
does “roughing it.” I’ll keep you posted!

Well, the biggest news we’ve had in quite a while is the fact that we’re going to be heard in San Diego again! We’re incredibly pumped to be going back on our home of 10 years, KSON 97.3 & 92.1.
They’re going to use our show at night & we couldn’t be more proud to return to the station that gave us a chance in 1993 & gave us so much success. We start in November.
San Diego friends - Any cool new businesses in town we should endorse or make sure we check out when we come visit?
That’s it for now. Talk to you soon!

Who’s Fat, Bald or Dead? Tony’s Blog

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

I’m doing something this weekend I haven’t done in over 20 years: Seeing people with whom I went to high school!
My 25th reunion is here & I’ve decided to take the trip back to Hokes Bluff, Alabama to take part. They’ve had one or two
other reunions but we lived in California & I really wasn’t up for a 2,500 mile trip for a reunion. But now, at 43 years old & feeling
a little nostalgic, plus living much closer, I figure it’s time. Like anyone, I’m curious about my former classmates. Who will have changed the most? Who got heavy? Who got skinny? Who got bald? We were a small class so it won’t be any major throwdown, but
it should be fun to see adults who, the last time I saw them in person, were teens without a clue.
Have you done the 20+ year reunion? What were the biggest surprises? Any fights? Any hook-ups? I feel compelled to cause something to happen that will be remembered. I’ll keep you posted on what I decide & try to get pictures or video if the police are involved!

Remember 9/11- Tony’s Blog

Sunday, September 11th, 2011

I hope you all had a great weekend. Relaxing around here. Although at one point on Saturday we did have 10 teenagers in our house. Yikes.

Watched a 9/11 special last night about the “Heroes Of The 88th Floor.” Basically how two regular guys who worked on that floor of the North Tower
of the World Trade Center helped save 77 people and inspired others to do the same. While we all thank fire, police, emt, military, etc., don’t forget
to thank the families of normal folks like you & me who did extraordinary things that day. How many of us would have stayed behind rather than go
down those stairs with our wives (which is what one of them did)? How many would fight to go up the stairs rather than down? How many would
sacrifice our lives to ensure that a few other people made it down? It was a remarkable, selfless act & the special was quite moving.
Kris & I saw it happen live. We followed the news & stayed on the air from 5:30 a.m. Pacific until well into the afternoon. We shared information &
encouragement, talking with listeners and letting them vent, cry & share. It was a day we’ll never forget & one of the rare opportunities two radio goofs
have the opportunity to do something that really matters: Help bring people together so healing may begin.

Family and Onions- Tony’s Blog

Friday, August 19th, 2011

Hi there! Just a quick pop-in as I’m about to head out the door to pick up Lexi at the airport as she arrives from San Diego for a late-summer visit before she starts her *GULP* Junior year at University of San Diego!
Can’t believe how the years have flown. She’ll be 20 in December, Geoffrey just turned 17 & is a Senior in high school & Meredith recently turned 15 & is a Sophomore. Seems like yesterday we were all going
school shopping together & they were all so excited to start the new year. Now (with the younger two at least) we have to drag them out of bed each day to get there, though Meredith still likes the shopping part.

On an unrelated note, I saw a story online a couple days ago about weird sandwich combinations people eat & the headline brought happy memories of my dad rushing back. The author was talking about how she’s made fun of for eating
peanut butter & onion sandwiches. Those were my pop’s favorites! He would eat them 2 or 3 times a week & every time, mom & I would cringe. The weirdest I ever got was as a kid, I would make a bologna, mustard & potato chip sandwich.
Delicious & crunchy! Do you have any weird sandwich combos that make people look at you like you’re nuts?

That’s it for now. Looking forward to a fun, but too short visit with Lexi & having all my kids under one roof for a while. Talk to you soon!

20 Years Married! It’s possible still… Tony’s Blog

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

“My how time flies.” “Where does the time go?” There are plenty of sayings about time & how it passes so quickly.
It’s the craziest thing to not really feel that much older but know, judging by how you look in the mirror or the world around you, that time has definitely passed.
Today I celebrate my 20th wedding anniversary with Candy. When we got married in 1991 (at 22) we were just a couple dumb kids. I know many of our friends (even some in attendance at the nuptials) didn’t think we’d make it. We were too young, hadn’t spent enough time together, etc. I guess we felt like most couples who take that leap. We loved each other & that seemed like enough. Over the years I’ve learned that love is important but I don’t think it’s enough. Patience, hard work, humor, forgiveness, friendship. These are just a few of the other ingredients in what I believe is a necessary recipe for a lasting marriage.
Did we start out like a fairy tale? No way. Has it been smooth sailing all the way? Are you kidding? Did we come close to the brink of losing it a few times? Unfortunately, yes. But through it all we kept it together. We worked at it. Staying married is no easy feat. We were so lucky to have role models like our parents. My folks certainly had their down times but they didn’t throw up their hands & throw in the towel when it got tough. They worked through the low times & were married til “death did they part.” Candy’s parents are so in love it’s a little intimidating sometimes.
We have three beautiful, though far from perfect, children. It’s a pretty great feeling to know we’ll leave behind 3 people who can be better than us; who can show that we did something pretty great for a pretty long time. What will the next 20 bring? I don’t know, but I know that if we have as much fun as we’ve had the first 20, it’s going to be a hell of a ride.

20 Years Of Marriage, Concerts, And Movies- Tony’s Blog

Monday, August 1st, 2011

Boy, do I feel rested! Wrapping up a week off & it’s been great. We kicked it off with a weekend excursion to Gulf Shores, Alabama. Got a chance to see & hang with Bradley Gaskin, Miranda Lambert & Gary Allan.
Lots of fun, sun, drinks & seafood! Candy & I stayed an extra day & celebrated our 20th a little early. Definitely nice to have a break from the every day & sit by a pool facing the ocean.

Once we got back I did a whole lot of nothing. Saw Harry Potter & Cowboys & Aliens. Both really good. As expected, I shed a few tears during Harry. Had fun texting back & forth with Lexi about it & finding that we
cried at some of the same parts. Yeah I know, I’m a wimp. :)
I’m lucky to love what I do for a living. I can tell I still love it because at the end of a vacation I’m always ready to get back to it. Looking forward to hearing what’s been going on in your world the last week
& sharing some stories on the radio. I hope you’ll be listening & continuing to tell your friends about our show so more folks can tune in! Talk to you soon!

Class Reunions, Moved, and Sleeping In- Tony’s Blog

Friday, June 24th, 2011

Well, things are finally settling down a little now that we’re in the new house. Moving went off without a hitch (except for the disappearance of the kitchen box that held all our cutting boards, prep bowls & measuring spoons. Frustrating!). Kids are enjoying summer, as is Candy, who now gets to sleep in instead of rising at 6 every day to cart kids to school. I sure wish I had a summer schedule! Maybe we could move mornings to 9a instead of 5a for a couple months a year? (more…)

Keith Urban “Behind The Scenes” Tony’s Blog

Friday, June 10th, 2011

What a CRAZY week in Nashville! It’s CMA Music Festival & all the die hard country fans have swooped in for a dream weekend.
We don’t usually wade too deep into the huge crowds, especially in this heat, but we do take part in some cool stuff. Yesterday,
Candy & I went to a private Keith Urban event. He opened up a rehearsal for industry, media & fan club-types to check out what he has in store for his upcoming tour. It was fantastic! There were around 400 people in the auditorium so it was really intimate. Keith came out &
talked about being nervous & asked that we all try to act like a “real” audience, then launched into Put You In A Song. He stopped & chatted between songs & explained some of what was going to happen. It was really fun. I snapped some pictures & took a little video. Hope you enjoy them.

Other than that, it looks like we’re hosting Chris Young’s fan club party this weekend & heading to Birmingham next week to take part in Bama Rising. Both HUGE honors. We’ll post pictures of both next week.
Have a great weekend!

Moving, College, Boyfriends, and CMA FEST-Tony’s Blog

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

Man, it’s been a crazy few weeks! Between Lexi & her boyfriend’s visit, Memorial Day & our moving into a new house, I’m pooped!

Moving is always such a pain but it’s always so nice when it’s over & you’re settled. We did our move mostly ourselves over the Memorial Day weekend & a few days after. I’m no fan of manual labor so I paid a few of Geoffrey’s buddies to help & that was a smart move. It does my heart good to see teenagers doing manual labor. I don’t see it enough! Now the unpacking & searching for stuff we lost in the move begins.

Lexi’s boyfriend has returned to San Diego. He got the stamp of approval from the family. Nice, funny kid. Of course, all I want to see is my daughter happy & she is, so I’m cool. Speaking of Lexi she’s smoking through college. She’s technically going to be a Junior next semester but she’s had to slow down her course load to avoid an early graduation. On the one hand, that’s great because she’s not even 20 yet. On the other, it just means more money. I’m somewhat torn, but as always, proud of her & her commitment to education.

It’s CMA Music Festival week here in Nashville so it promises to be fun & super busy. Look for pictures & videos here on TonyandKris.com soon!

Hangovers and Boyfriends- Tony’s Blog

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Well, this is a big week with TONS going on. The Hangover Part II opens Thursday & we’ll be checking out the first showing in
Nashville. I really hope it lives up to the hype, but that will be tough to do.

The same day, Lexi gets here & it’s a special visit because she’s bringing her boyfriend along for part of it. We’ve only chatted briefly on Skype so I’m looking forward to meeting the young man in person. Also coming up with some plans to mess with him & embarrass Lexi. Of course, having all the kids together is the best. I can’t wait.

This weekend we start the moving process. We’re moving to a different school district, as we’ve been REALLY let down by the school
the kids have attended. It was supposed to be one of the best in our county but I can’t agree. Mostly the counseling & administrative
staff at fault, but enough that we’re willing to uproot. The good news is, we’re moving to an area that has a lot of stuff close by (restaurants, movie theatres, etc) & a really nice neighborhood. The moving part is a real pain, but we’re experts. We’ve lived in 7 houses in the last 18 years! I guess we’re nomads.

I hope you have some nice plans with friends & family for Memorial Day weekend. As you enjoy time together, please don’t forget
to take a moment to remember the reason behind the day. A quick prayer or thought for fallen men & women of the military would
be an easy “thank you” for all they & their families sacrificed.

Talk to you soon!
