Lionel Richie is releasing a country album.
The ‘All Night Long’ hitmaker insists he didn’t deliberately set out to create a record in the style, but felt it was a “natural progression” to recreate some of his most famous hits in the popular genre.
He said: “Over a period of time I realised that the songs that I was writing translated to country. As a songwriter I didn’t really start out thinking I was country, I was thinking I was R&B. It was just a natural progression. I am from Tuskegee, Alabama – I’m a country boy. It just felt right to do this.”

Actor Rob Lowe, host of CMT Artists of the Year special that taped Tuesday (Nov. 29), told the crowd a special “hell-raiser” would be joining Jason Aldean for his performance of “Tattoos On This Town.”
And after a verse, Hank Williams Jr. walked out in bright yellow shirt and black pants and sang a verse, but without his usual Bocephus energy and flair.

NASHVILLE (Reuters) – Country singer Keith Urban underwent successful throat surgery to remove a polyp from his vocal cord earlier this week and is doing fine, the singer’s spokesman said on Friday.

Urban had the procedure on Tuesday, and he will not be able to speak for three weeks, spokesman Paul Freundlich told Reuters. The singer is recovering at an undisclosed location.

One day ahead of the procedure, Urban posted a video on his website thanking fans for their support. (see video)

LOS ANGELES — Taylor Swift was crowned artist of the year at the American Music Awards for a second time.

“This is so crazy!” the country superstar said after beat such contenders as Adele, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry to capture all three awards that she was nominated for at Sunday’s ceremony, including artist of the year, the show’s highest accolade that she previously claimed in 2009.

“I ended up writing the record by myself, so the fact that you would honor it this way, you have no idea what this means to me,” said Swift after winning the trophy for favorite country album for “Speak Now.” She was also awarded the prize for favorite country female artist.

Blake Shelton revealed some pretty big details tonight via Twitter as he announced his headlining tour for early 2012. Earlier in the day he tweeted, “Hey y’all there will be an announcement tonight about my up coming tour.” Apparently Blake couldn’t hold it in any longer and about four hours later he revealed the news, “Awe screw it…. I’m starting my head lining tour in January…. “Well Lit and Amplified” with Justin Moore and Dia Frampton!!!!!” The tour will kick off in Toledo, OH and then hit 27 cities across the US and end on St. Patrick’s Day in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay.

Miranda invited us to the last night of rehearsal for her upcoming tour. These are just some of the photos and a few videos. It was in a special rehearsal hall under the arena in Nashville. The Pistol Annies made an appearance, two rock cover songs, and all of her hits. We were lucky enough to be able to watch with about 20 others on a couch about 10 feet from the stage. It was like our own private Miranda concert and was amazing. Hope you catch it when it comes to your town.
