I’ve had my share of (self-induced) fitness struggles over the years.
You probably know how it works; those times when you just go off the rails in regards to diet & exercise. The result is always the same. One day you look in the mirror & say, “When did I get so fat?”
In my almost 30 years of being an adult, I’ve gone through this about 3-4 times. Most recently, when Katie moved here to live with me. We were happy & distracted by each other & the next thing you know, after many dinners out & hardly any exercise, we’d both gained some major pounds. In May, we committed to fix that, and I made a promise to myself that at 46, I would never make this mistake again. I was an avid Crossfit junkie in San Diego and at 40, was in the best shape of my life. When I moved away from my great friend & trainer, Jeff Martin, I fell away from it. We had a place here in town recommended to us by a friend & decided to give it a try. It’s called Hotbox. A very cool, small-ish gym that offers strength training & kickboxing. We do the 60 minute kickboxing class 4-5 times a week in a room that averages about 82 degrees. It’s a serious, butt-kicking workout, but we love it. The staff is fantastic & friendly (They actually know our names. Impressive to me.) & they do a super job of keeping us motivated. I’ve lost over 20 pounds since May by doing this & making some easy adjustments to my diet.
Bottom line? Being fit isn’t about the latest exercise or diet trend & quick results. It’s about a LIFESTYLE change & committing to staying with it. Good luck to you on your journey & the next time you’re in Nashville, come by Hotbox & try it out. You’ll walk out sweaty & tired, but I promise you’ll love it.
