TK1 Blog Tracy Gamboe – A Jake Owen Concert
T-Time – CMT Endless Summer Tour
I had the opportunity to go see Jake Owen headlining the CMT Endless Summer Tour when it came to the Detroit area last week and all I can say is WOW! If you have the opportunity…GO! My friends and I enjoyed it very much. This was the third time that I’ve seen Jake since March and the second for Love and Theft. Florida Georgia Line was a first.
Of course, when Kelly, Judi and I get together, we always have to have some kind of drama. Judi provided it this time. We’re standing in line waiting to go in and she drops her ticket down a grate that’s around a tree. Luckily, there was a hero in line and he lifted the grate so she could retrieve the ticket. Then we met up with a friend that’s a photographer and the pictures that he has on his website of Jake are just awesome! Check them out at captainstevephotography.com. Anyway when you go to a small venue concert you always want the best spots right? So we headed to the main floor, about 20 feet from the stage. Steve graciously picked a spot that didn’t have too many tall people so that we could see. He’s 6’1” so had no problems but yeah, two things that I discovered that night…one, I’m too short to be in the middle of the floor crowd and expect to see the artists and two…I’m not 25 yrs. old anymore and can’t stand for a straight 6 hours!
Florida Georgia Line was the first group up and they definitely got the fans warmed up. Their music is
most definitely a rock country sound. Of course the crowd loved it when they sang their hit single “Cruise”. They’ve hooked up with the right artist to help get the push they need in their career. As the stagehands got ready for Love and Theft, the crowd started growing and pushing. Somehow we ended up way back further then where we started. The most annoying thing was when three women pushed their way in front of us and then in the middle of Love and Theft’s set, they started talking and fixing each other’s hair. I don’t understand why people think they can leave their manners at home when they come to something like that. I’m there to enjoy the music not watch someone fix someone else’s hair. Let’s get back to the music. LNT were excellent! Their hit single “Angel Eyes” was the last song that they played but they also sang “Fishin’ In the Dark/Drift Away” (Dobie Gray Cover). They put on a great show! Now for Jake…what can I say? I love watching him perform. By the time Jake got on stage, we ended up in the balcony. There were just too many tall people there for us to stay on the main floors. The best place for me to be was in the balcony where it was cooler and I could actually see the stage. Jake started out with “The One That Got Away” and treated us to 17 songs. He brought Florida Georgia Line back out to sing “Summer Jam” then to our surprise and pleasure, he brought out one of our local singer-songwriters J.T. Harding, better known as JTX. He’s a co-writer for “Alone With You”. They sang “Love In America” which is JTX’s song. The crowd was going crazy! Not only were they at a Jake Owen concert but the Detroit Tigers had just won the game that sent them to the World Series. Apparently Jake taught his band JTX’s song during the 10 minutes before the show started. That was the unexpected treat that Jake gave his Detroit fans! We got three songs during the encore which included the all-time favorite “Bow Chicka Wow Wow” (Mike Posner Cover) but I absolutely loved it when he brought ALL the artists out to help him sing “JUMP” (Van Halen cover). They were like a huge bundle of energy running around on the stage. I can say that I’ve seen Jake grow as a performer just since the first concert that I went too. He was very generous in sharing the center stage with his touring mates. Each group just had fun up there.
After the concert, we were able to hang out a bit and actually got to meet Jake’s drummer, Myron.
Highlight was getting my picture taken with Myron and goofing around with him for a few minutes. To wrap things up, you will definitely be hearing more from Florida Georgia Line, Love and Theft and Jake Owen. Great music, awesome show! Enjoy your music and stay safe! Thanks for letting me share.
