TK1Blog: Countrylovin – Country Music?
I am the type of person who typically rolls with the punches, always looks at the brighter side of things, and I am not one to really complain about things, but I really need to vent for a moment and after thinking about who/where I could vent too, I decided to put it in a blog. I am so beyond frustrated with country radio, my one local station in particular. Why in the world do you play, and play, and play, and continue to play Taylor Swift’s new song “We are never getting back together again” until it seems like our ears are bleeding? That song is NOT country, and should not be played on country radio EVER!! Play it on the pop music stations all day long, if I am choosing at that time to listen to pop I would expect to hear something like that song. It seems like just because it has the name “Taylor Swift” attached to it, that the song gets way more attention and air time than it deserves to have. Now don’t get me wrong, I am NOT bashing on Taylor Swift as an individual. I think she is one very incredibly smart business woman who has without a doubt conquered the business world, I think she continually goes above and beyond for her fans which is important, and even though I have never met her, I am sure she is one very sweet person. I hope she continues to have success with her music but in the pop world. I personally like a couple of her songs, mainly her early stuff which is just my personal taste but she is a pop artist, not a country artist. I am very quick to change the station when her songs come on because my particular station plays her every 45 minutes so it seems and I am just way beyond sick of it. I feel like it takes away from other incredible songs that other artist have put out and are fighting for spins and air time.
I don’t understand the politics behind radio. I know that my station in particular does not listen to survey’s and fans because they would have seen from their listeners responses on facebook and twitter, and their website that the majority of people can’t stand the song, and the ones who did agreed that it shouldn’t be played on country radio. So someone please explain to me the politics behind country music and radio. Venting to my local station would have done no good because they have like a 20 set song list that is on repeat and if you have a big name you automatically go in and get spins over anything and everything. My ipod and CD’s has become my best friend lately, as I know I would never ever ever break up with them. I guess the same goes for Kelly Clarkson being nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year for the CMA’s. Now nothing against Kelly, love her but please tell me when she became a country artist and what songs she has out there. I know she did a remake of one of her POP songs, and I know she has the duet with Reba and Jason Aldean from a few years ago, but a nomination over other female artist is a slap in the face to those female artists. There are other nominations that I don’t personally agree with, and I feel that several artist got snubbed and overlooked but I know the CMA’s is nothing but politics, it’s not what you do, it’s who you know and how much you pay it seems like. Don’t get me wrong, there are several nominees who are more than deserving of their nominations and I am excited for them, and hope that they walk away with the awards. If someone wants to explain to me all the politics behind the radio and awards shows I am more than happy and willing to listen and learn. Maybe it will help me not be so darn frustrated with the radio. Sometimes I feel like I would love to be program director or a radio DJ for a week and set the play list for radio, just to see if it becomes more what the listeners like and want to hear over the political side of it all.
On a better note, my schedule is seriously kicking my rear right now. I know vacation is around the corner but I don’t even have time to think about it. Sometimes I have to check my calendar a couple times a day just to see what day it is and what I have going on. I am working really hard and learning a lot, and have some exciting things coming my way so I am just rolling with the punches one day at a time, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. I did have a really great weekend this past weekend. Besides working, and homework, I took some time to see some friends for a BBQ, and I got to go to Rascal Flatt’s concert which was really good. They restored my faith in them as performers again, as I had lost it after last year’s concert. Their whole new album that came out a few months ago CHANGED is really good, and their movie that they did for the one night only was really good also. I think between the album and movie it helped me decide to go ahead and spend the money to see them again, and then the show completely restored my faith in them. I have been a fan of theirs from the beginning and have seen them more times than I can count. Aside from the show and friends, I had a pretty good weekend with my sports teams also so I think it was worth the no sleep I got all weekend. This upcoming weekend I am going to see Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan with DeeJay Silver. This show promises to be epic. It will be another weekend of no sleep between work and homework but I really need to take some time to have some fun and that is what I am trying to do.
If you have read any of my previous blogs you know I am a huge fan of Chris Young!! Well he is now headlining his own tour, the Liquid Neon Tour and I am so way beyond words excited for him, and as a fan I am so proud. He will be on the road with Thomas Rhett and Joanna Smith. His show kicks off with a show in Nashville at the Ryman on November 15th. Tickets are going fast, so if you haven’t gotten your ticket yet, make sure you do. This show is going to be way beyond any expectations you have, and it will be worth every penny spent. Ticket price $30ish, seeing Chris Young Headline the Liquid Neon Tour = Priceless. Go see the show; I promise you, you will fall in love with him as an artist and performer if you haven’t already!
One other artist you should really get the music of, David Nail. I own both his albums, and bought his EP from ITunes, it is amazing! He is a really great artist and you should really check him out if you haven’t already. He is a fun one to see live also. I have had the pleasure of seeing him acoustic and with a full band and have enjoyed both shows. So, check him out!
