TK1 Blog From Tracy- Fourth Of July & Summer Plans
Aaah, summer has finally arrived in Michigan and it is wonderful! I’ve been making plans for two vacations this year and a couple of concerts. Have you ever noticed that some songs just “sound” like summer and sunshine? When the sun is shining and you’re driving down the road, those certain songs come on the radio and you can’t help but reach over, turn the volume up and sing along! And you occasionally do the “seat dance” with a few arm and shoulder movements. Yeah, I do that…much to the embarrassment of my son Craig. So to get my music fix this summer, I’m going to two concerts, Gloriana, which will be the third time that I’ve seen them since December and the other is
Kenny Chesney’s Brothers of the Sun Tour. This will be the first time that I’ve seen Kenny and Tim and as much as I love their music, the real reason that I’m going is to see Jake Owen. Yes, I’m hooked. I’m also going to see some local bands throughout the summer with a couple of my friends or partners in crime as I refer to them. Music, sunshine, friendships and new experiences…that’s what my summer will be made of this year!
What does the 4th of July mean to you? To me it means FREEDOM! The freedom to work…freedom to worship where we want…the freedom to dream…the freedom to build a life the way we want…freedom to say the Pledge of Allegiance…freedom to vote the way we want…freedom to disagree in politics without being thrown in jail or worse…freedom to marry who we want…freedom of speech…freedom to listen to music. This is what our soldiers fought for, this right. This is why people from around the world want to come to America. They see freedoms that we take for granted. The freedom of choice is a precious gift. Country music has some of the most talented song writers and they reach down into our hearts and souls at times and touch that special spot. When it comes to patriotism here are some of my favorite country songs:
• God Bless the USA – Lee Greenwood
• Where the Stars and Stripes and the Eagle Fly – Aaron Tippin (LOVE this song!)
• American Child – Phil Vassar
• Only in America – Brooks and Dunn
• This is My Life – Phil Vassar
If you haven’t listened to these songs lately, look them up. I know that there are many more out there but these are my favorites and the ones that mean the most to me. I don’t see how anyone could listen to any of these songs and not feel anything. Of course This is My Life is more about the struggle it takes to have and keep what this country gives us. It’s the American spirit of the working class that you hear in this song. Whatever your favorites, take time to listen to them this week. My husband and I are heading out on the 4th for our mini vacation in celebration of our 27th wedding anniversary on the 5th. Oh my, where has the time gone? My second vacation will be to Nashville with my friend Kelly. Plans aren’t complete yet but I’ve been reading the blogs from the ladies that have been there
recently so we’ll probably hit some of those places, plus Tony has been giving me some suggestions so our plans are starting to take shape. As much as I can’t wait for my plans to take place, I know that the summer will slip by quicker than I would like. As we begin all our summer fun, please remember to stay safe and enjoy yourself!

You’re absolutely right about those patriotic songs…love em. Our “Jamboree in the Hills” starts on the 19th, I’ll get to hear “Free Bird” live in my back yard again!
Have a wonderful summer, Tracy! Miss you!
